Is it a "Myth" that you look "Red Hot" in your "Birthday Suit"?!?!

I know you probably read that title and though "huh!?" Now home girl has gone and done lost her MIND!!!! Well. Maybe! haha But this is a LIPSTICK post!!! I will review MAC's Myth lipstick (satin) and two Rimmel Lipstick's Red Hot (true red) and Birthday Suit (browny-nude).

First Off...some Tips on how to get your pucker ready for lipstick!!! Luckily, the three I reviewed were pretty creamy (Myth wasn't as much so) BUT, granted the more matte formula's are pretty drying, let's just start with....

Step 1: Exfoliate the dry skin on your lips (or..OFF your lips I should say!) using brown sugar, a toothbrush, microfibre cloth, whatever you like!

Step 2: Follow up with a nice balm-- something translucent so as not to distort the colour! (i love love love rosebud lip salve) and let it absorb into your lips for a few minutes (i like to apply balm at the begining of a make-up application so it is all soaked in when i do my lips, which is last)

Step 3: Apply a very light layer of concealer over the perimeter of lips! this helps your liner glide on better, and provides a more 'blank' canvas for your product

Step 4: Liner!!! So crucial for red lips especially, it helps define lips, help lip colour from feathering or bleeding, and also helps if you have uneven lips, to give them a more even appearance. If you have thin lips, and want to make 'em look bigger, just line *ever so* slightly outside your natural lip line! For nude lipsticks, go with a liner that matches your lip colour-- you don't want an obvious line a-la 1990's nasty!

Step 5: Fill In your lips completely with liner *STEP OPTIONAL* This will keep your lipstick around WAY longer, remember, it's all about barriers-- the more 'layers' you have, the longer it will stay! Once one layer goes, the other one is there as back up-- so you don't have that nasty ring-around-your-mouth look! Unless you want to...then..more power to ya!

Step 6: Time to Apply Lip Product! I recommend using a brush for this, it helps you use less product, and build up to the desired intensity, as well as be more precise...check out the brush I have in the pictures below!!

Step 7: You can layer until you get the pigmentation/vividness you want! Too much? Blot it off with a paper towel (i find tissues leave little fuzzies everywhere, but do what works for you!!!

Step 8: You can stop here if you would like, some make-up artists suggest dusting with a loose powder to 'set'-- this WILL mattify your lips, so if you want a matte look, definitely do this step!!!!

Step 9: GLOSSS!!!!! This is also *OPTIONAL* you don't have to do this, but if you do, i suggest a few things: 1) a Clear gloss in the centre of your lips gives illusion of a bigger pout 2) Sparkly clear gloss looks amazing, gives good dimension too! 3) Red Gloss-- this will intensify your look mucho! I am looking for a good red gloss myself, I want to try MAC's Russian Red!!!

Step 10: Again, *OPTIONAL* but if you want a perfect look, ESPECIALLY with Red Lips-- you need this step! Take your concealer, and trace a 'reverse' line outside your finished lips, use a concealer brush for a precise application, then blend out! This really makes your lips pop! Set it *the concealer* with a powder-- this last step is another barrier of defense against 'feathering'! Step 11: *OPTIONAL* This is my favourite little trick-- take a white frosty eyeshadow or a highlight if you have it (Benefit make's a product called "Cupid's Bow" JUST for this!!) Apply just around the cupid's bow of your lip (that little 'bow shaped' part of your lips) this highlights the area, another way to make it look fuller!

2 Rimmel Lipsticks L-R: Birthday Suit, Red Hot-- Bought them 2 for 7$!!!!!!! from Wal-Mart <3

MACs Myth Lipstick-- $16.50 (I got mine during the amazing F&F sale!)

I bought this Lip Brush for 2$!!!!! from Wal-Mart-- it comes apart, which is awesome for travel...seeee...

So it won't muck everything up in your purse/make up bag/where ever!

This is my natur-elle lip colour WITH my fave balm- Rosebud lip salve (it's like 8$ at Sephora--seriously, I need it in my life always)-- just so you have an idea-- remember lip stick looks different on everyone, because of chemistry, lip colour, etc! So...I look nasty-- just woke up, no make up one yet, but i wanted to blog----sooo please don't judge! BTW- all swatches are without liner, etc. Because i was lazy and just wanted you to see the colour more than the technique :)

MAC's Myth Lipstick (satin) $16.50 CDN from www.maccosmetics.ca

Rimmel- "Birthday Suit" $3.50 CDN from Wal-Mart

Rimmel- "Red Hot" $3.50 CDN from Wal-Mart!

I'm embarassed by the hideousness of these, but there you have it folks! Great deal, the pictures don't do the "Red Hot" justice, it's so silky and creamy and amazing-- I don't care for the Rimmel-lipstick's smell-- kinda cinnamon-y-- but it's not too bad!
